The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the timetable and activities for the upcoming February 3, 2024 bye-elections. This development follows the approval of a timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct bye-elections resulting from the resignation or demise of members of the National and State Houses of Assembly.
The timetable, signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, discloses that the notice of primary election and congresses to state chapters will commence on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. Additionally, the sale of nominations, expression of interest, and delegates’ forms is set to begin on Thursday, December 28, 2023, and conclude on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.
Highlighting the key dates, the primary election is scheduled for Monday, January 8, 2024, with appeals on the party primary slated for Tuesday, January 9, 2024.
Notably, the PDP has determined the pricing for the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for various positions. For the Senate, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly, the prices are set at N3.5 million, N2.5 million, and N600,000, respectively.
The party’s statement also specifies the payment details for different groups, stating, “Please note that female aspirants and persons living with disabilities are to pay for nomination forms only. Youths (male/female) below 40 years are to purchase Expression of Interest forms, but with a 50% discount on nomination forms.”
