2Baba Takes on Government Role as Benue State’s Entertainment and Community Outreach Adviser

In a landmark fusion of artistry and governance, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has appointed iconic Nigerian musician Innocent “2Baba” Idibia as the Technical Adviser on Entertainment and Community Outreach—a role aimed at bridging creative influence with grassroots engagement.
The announcement was made on Wednesday at the Benue State Government House in Makurdi during a courtesy visit by the legendary singer.
In his remarks, Governor Alia praised 2Baba for his enduring commitment to social causes and his vocal support for the administration, describing him as “a cultural icon whose voice resonates far beyond music.”
“You have supported this administration with heart and conviction,” Alia said. “You’ve also publicly endorsed us for the future, and that kind of faith must be reciprocated with greater responsibility.”
The governor emphasized that the appointment reflects not only 2Baba’s celebrity status but also his influence as a role model and advocate for peace and social development—particularly in his home state of Benue.
“Once people hear ‘2Baba,’ they start smiling—and in many cases, dancing,” Alia joked. “Your name alone carries a message of unity and joy. That’s why I believe it’s only fitting to formally bring you on board as a key partner in shaping our cultural and community engagement strategies.”
He continued: “You’ve always used your platform to promote peace, good governance, and positive change. We want to deepen that collaboration so we can harness your insight and visibility for the good of our people.”
As Technical Adviser, 2Baba is expected to work closely with state officials, entertainment stakeholders, and community leaders to foster local talent, drive youth-oriented initiatives, and promote cultural diplomacy across Benue and beyond.
The appointment has been hailed as a bold and symbolic gesture, not only recognizing the power of creative voices in governance but also signaling the administration’s commitment to inclusive development.
In response to the honor, 2Baba expressed gratitude and reaffirmed his commitment to using his platform to uplift his people.
“I’ve always believed that entertainment is more than just showbiz—it’s a powerful tool for advocacy and transformation,” he said. “I’m deeply humbled by this recognition and ready to serve.”
However, the appointment has sparked outrage on social media, with many criticizing the decision amid ongoing violence in the state, particularly attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
