UNICEF donates 7,000 cartons of RUTF supplement to Katsina to tackle malnutrition

In a bid to combat malnutrition in the state, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) delivered 7,000 cartons of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Foods to the Katsina State Government on Wednesday.

Speaking during the programme, UNICEF Nigeria Country Representative, Cristian Mundiate, described the RUTF as life-saving to malnourished children.

She noted that “with this initiative, we hope to save as many lives as possible not only in Katsina State but Nigeria at large.”

According to Mundiate, UNICEF was committed to the fight against the scourge of malnutrition.

She added that UNICEF is willing to provide additional funding for the project if the government gives more financial allocation to the health sector and builds more primary healthcare centres across the communities.

UNICEF Chief further explained that “ it is important to know that we need to take care of our young ones.

Receiving the supplements, Governor Dikko Radda acknowledged what he described as a high number of malnourished children in the State.
