Edo Governorship Election Tribunal Adjourns as APC Closes Case

The Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has adjourned proceedings until March 3, 2025, following the All Progressives Congress (APC) decision to close its case in the ongoing petition challenging Governor Monday Okpebholo’s victory in the September 21, 2024 election.

The tribunal is hearing a petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who are contesting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s declaration of Okpebholo as the winner.

Despite initially preparing to present 28 witnesses, the APC, represented by lead counsel Ferdinand Orbih (SAN), opted not to call additional witnesses after presenting just four. Three of these witnesses testified to over-voting incidents, although they confirmed that the affected polling units’ results had been canceled.

Orbih explained that crucial documents intended to support their case had not arrived from Benin City, leading to the decision to close their defense.

Neither the petitioners nor the respondents raised objections, and the tribunal officially closed the case. All parties were given time to submit and respond to their final written addresses before reconvening on March 3 for the adoption.
