9th Senate holds valedictory session

The Ninth Senate has held its last sitting and its valedictory session in the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly in Saturday, June 10.

It is scheduled to wind up activities on Sunday, June 11, 2023, having been inaugurated on June 12, 2019.

The valedictory session was earlier fixed for Thursday but was postponed till Saturday.

Present at the ceremony, which began at about 11 a.m., included Vice President Kashim Shettima and the wife of the President, Oluremi Tinubu, Senate President Ahmad Lawan and Ovie Omo-Agege, Deputy Senate President.

Shettima represents Borno central while Oluremi represents Lagos central.

Among other activities, the senators were presented “certificates of legislative service” presented by the clerk of the senate, Chinedu Akubueze.

The meeting also centred on the process for producing the presiding officers of the 10th national assembly which will be inaugurated on Tuesday, June 13, with only about 34 lawmakers from the Ninth Senate returning to the chamber.
