The Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport in Ogun State has achieved a major milestone, reaching 97% completion—an achievement marked by the successful validation of critical flight operations by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).
This progress signals the airport’s imminent readiness for commercial activity and cements its position as a pivotal infrastructure asset in Nigeria’s aviation and logistics ecosystem.
NAMA, in its recent technical assessment, conducted comprehensive runway checks and flight procedure validations, including the rigorous “Runway 23 and 05” evaluations.
These checks, aligned with the runway’s two operational headings—230° southwest and 050° northeast—ensure precision in aircraft alignment, approach procedures, and the performance of essential navigational systems.
Particular attention was given to the calibration of the Instrument Landing System (ILS), critical for safe landings and take-offs in all weather conditions.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, in a statement shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, expressed confidence in the process and applauded NAMA’s endorsement. “We are pleased to welcome the team from the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), whose recent validation visit marks a pivotal step toward the launch of commercial flight operations at our Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport,” the governor stated.
According to NAMA’s findings, the airport has met the key operational benchmarks required for certification, following the successful completion of its flight checks and navigational assessments.
The agency also provided technical input on final installations, including advanced navigational aids and the ILS, reinforcing the airport’s preparedness for full-scale operations.
Designed to world-class standards, the Gateway Airport features Nigeria’s longest runway at four kilometres, alongside a cutting-edge terminal complex, sophisticated air traffic control systems, and a next-generation control tower.
This infrastructure is poised to efficiently manage both cargo and passenger services, positioning Ogun State as a strategic logistics hub in West Africa.
Governor Abiodun emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Ogun State Government and federal aviation bodies, underscoring NAMA’s role in upholding international safety and operational standards.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to utilizing the Gateway Airport as a catalyst for regional trade, industrialization, and broad-based economic development.
