Fresh from notching up a record-breaking 23rd Grand Slam title, Novak Djokovic, has moved back to the top of the ATP rankings released on Monday.
This monumental victory came at the French Open, where Djokovic defeated Casper Ruud in straight sets, thereby surpassing the long-standing record of 22 majors he previously shared with his arch-rival, Rafael Nadal.
The 36-year-old Djokovic’s victory not only places him as the most successful men’s singles player ever, but it also marks him as the first man in history to win at least three titles at each Grand Slam.
Russian Daniil Medvedev, who crashed out in the first round of Roland Garros, also dropped a place, while Norway’s beaten finalist Casper Ruud stays in fourth, 40 points ahead of Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Meanwhile, fourteen-time French Open winner Nadal, however, paid the price for his absence through his long-term hip injury, dropping 121 places to 136th in the rankings.
Despite this monumental achievement, Djokovic has already set his sights on Wimbledon, where he aims to equal Federer’s record of eight titles.
