Late arrival of materials on Saturday characterised the Local Government Election in parts of Edo as voters were kept waiting for long in queues at many polling units in Benin while electoral materials failed to arrive at 8:00 a.m. as scheduled by the electoral umpires.
Though the exercise was billed to begin at 8:30 am, it was delayed at several polling units, including in Oredo, Ikpoba Okha, and Egor local government areas (LGAs).
The intending voters who turned out early in their numbers at the different units were seen waiting patiently for voting to commence.
A security officer deployed to unit 44 ward 10 of Egor LGA, who preferred anonymity, said materials were still being awaited as at 8:30 a.m.
Some party agents disclosed to journalists that sensitive materials were still being sorted and dispatched from Ward 2 Oredo LGA Collation Centre to units in the riverine areas as of 12:00 pm.
