After weeks of filing and exchanging court papers between Atiku Abubakar and President Tinubu, the Supreme Court has scheduled Monday, October 23, to hear three appeals challenging the judgement of the Presidential Election Petition Court affirming President Bola Tinubu’s election.
The apex court will the same day hear the motion by Atiku seeking to bring fresh evidence to prove that President Bola Tinubu submitted a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
A five-member panel of the presidential election court led by Haruna Tsammani had dismissed the petitioners’ suits on the basis that they failed to substantiate their allegations of electoral fraud against Nigeria’s electoral commission, INEC, and Tinubu, among other claims.
At the hearing next week, the Supreme Court will unveil a seven-member team that will adjudicate and determine the case.
In his appeal, Atiku’s lead lawyer, Chris Uche, anchored the suit on 35 grounds.
The documents Atiku sought to tender are the academic records of Tinubu, which were handed over to him by the Chicago State University on Monday, October 2.
Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and the Allied People’s Movement (APM). also filed their appeals urging the Supreme Court to nullify the presidential election court’s decision which upheld Tinubu’s victory on September 6.
