No fewer than 42,000 vulnerable households have benefited from the distribution of the first phase of the Gombe State Government palliative.
This is as the distribution steering committee submitted its report to the government.
The Secretary to the Government of Gombe State, Professor Ibrahim Njodi, who received the report on Monday, on behalf of Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, commended the committee for doing a good job.
The items distributed include five kg of rice, two bags of fertiliser, two litres of pesticides, carton of macaroni or spaghetti.
According to Yahaya, “I wish to acknowledge the commitment, resilience, sacrifices, and diligence of the committee in the discharge of its mandate.”
He, however, noted that, like any human endeavour, challenges might have been encountered during the distribution exercise, adding that “most complaints about the exercise is emanating from opposition politicians for their selfish reasons.”
He used the occasion to announce that arrangement is ongoing for the distribution of the share of the state’s Federal Government’s palliative, disclosing to the committee members that their services may be required.
Presenting the report, the Chairman of the Committee, who doubles as Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, Abdullahi Haruna, appreciated Governor Yahaya for allowing them to serve the state in such a capacity.
He also lauded the SGS for providing them with the needed leadership and direction, leading to the successful completion of the distribution exercise.
