Court revokes former AGF Idris’ co-defendant’s bail

The bail previously granted to Geoffrey Akindele, one of the defendants in the trial involving former Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, has been revoked.

Akindele is being tried alongside the ex-AGF for fraudulent diversion of public funds amounting to N109.5 million.

Other defendants are Idris Mohammed, Kudu Usman, and Gezawa Commodity Market and Exchange Limited

Only Idris and Usman were present when the case was called on Tuesday, which prompted Justice Yusuf Halilu to inquire about Akindele’s whereabouts from the defendant’s attorney, S. E. Adino.

Akindele’s attorney, Adinoi, informed the judge that his client was on his way to the hearing and had regularly attended previous ones.

The judge declared that a defendant who was granted bail was obligated to return the favour by consistently showing up in court.

He, therefore, revoked his bail, directing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the prosecuting agency, and the Commissioner of Police in the FCT to arrest Akindele and bring him before the court on the next adjourned date. Halilu, however, adjourned the hearing to February 1, 2024.
