Imo state concludes first Para-Soccer Association Tournament

Paralympic athletes in Imo state got an opportunity to showcase their talent at the just concluded IMO State Para – Soccer Association tournament hosted by Sports and Film guru, Kelechi Eke, in collaboration with the Imo state government.

The concluding game of the tournament which held at the Dan Anyiam Stadium Owerri, featured IHEMBA FC vs Jabulani FC. Speaking to journalists after the match, Kelechi, pledged support for the growth and development of Para – Soccer in IMO state. He said, ” Indeed, l commend all the players of Para – Soccer in IMO state, particularly the two teams in the Para – Soccer match today. To me, is an honour to be here hence l assured you of my maximum support to ensure the growth and development of Para – Soccer in IMO state. Again, l assured you of making your next end of year tournament in December 22, 2024 a great event “.

Eke who is a retired international soccer player and founder of the Africa United Football Club, stressed that Para – Soccer teams in the state need to be supported. He therefore urged the Imo state government as well as other stakeholders to take action towards ensuring that Paralympic athletes are encouraged.

IMO state Para – Soccer coach, Chibuzor Nwankwere and the team manager, Ebogu Anthony, who were also present at the tournament commended Kelechi’s commitment to promoting Para- Soccer at the grassroot, presenting him with an outstanding Patron Award.

Other Key stakeholders at the event includes, the IMO state sports Director, Ferdinand Emeana, Victor James (Ist coach Para – Soccer), Greg Emenekwe, Ikenna Nwakwere, and Stephen Happiness, among others.

Kelechi is a U.S based software Engineer, film producer and Director. He is the founder of The Africa Film Festival, TAFF, which is set to host its 9th award festival in Dallas, Texas. In his spare time Kelechi, enjoys coaching and playing soccer. Through the Africa United Football Club which he founded in 1997, Kelechi has mentored many over the years and won several soccer championships with the club, including becoming Champions of the North Texas Premier Soccer League. His passion for bringing Africans together is reflected in both his football team and in his style of film making.
