Popular Nigerian blogger, Tunde Ednut says in the African music scene, Wizkid is more respected than artists like Burna Boy and Davido.
The Blogger in a video he posted said that Afrobeat artist Wizkid is more respected throughout Africa than any other Nigerian musician owing to how he changed the way African artists were treated at the BET International Awards.
The video showed how African artists received their medals and awards backstage at the 2018 BET Awards.
The voice over behind the video said; “Beyond his musical prowess, one of the significant reasons Wizkid commands respect across Africa is his pivotal role in changing the treatment of African artiste at the BET Awards.
It also recalled how Wizkid, on the other hand, won the BET Award in 2017 but refused to attend, accusing the award show of promoting fake love for African artists.
In Wizkid’s words; “If you are not gonna show us same love, you show your international artiste, if you’re not gonna show us that same love on the main stage then don’t show us no love until we don’t want it.”
His impact was evident when Davido received the award the following year, which was given to him in front of a live audience during the main show.
African artists have been accorded the same respect as their American counterparts at the BET award since then.
