The Ondo State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed Olayide Adelami as the Deputy Governor of Ondo State.
The development came 24 hours after the governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa picked Adelami as the deputy governor-nominee and sent his name to the Assembly for screening and approval.
The Assembly confirmed the nominee after the consideration of a report by the House selection committee presided over by the Speaker, Olamide Oladij, during the plenary session of the Assembly.
The House had earlier conducted a screening exercise for the nominee at the Assembly complex before the plenary.
He also promised that he would promote a harmonious relationship between the state executive and the legislature.
The Speaker of the House, on his part, pledged that the legislature would give the executive the support needed at all times. He stressed that with the confirmation of Adelami, the stage had been set for the rapid development of Ondo State.
Aiyedatiwa, who was sworn in as Ondo governor on December 27, 2023, following the death of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, picked the late governor’s kinsman from Owo as his deputy.
