From the early hours of Wednesday, February 7, within the Itamaga area down to the Sabo Market area, one will see commercial motorcyclists popularly known as Okada trooping in hundreds with leaves placed in front of their motorcycles and stopping their colleagues or fellow riders with passengers from continuing their journey and it was done in a hostile manner.
This would not be the first protest done in this manner, it would be recalled that on Thursday, July 20, Okada riders stormed the Palace of the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Shotobi, to protest alleged extortion and illegal arrests by officers of the Nigeria Police.
A commercial tricycle rider who refused to be identified said, “The Okada riders are tired of the consistent extortion and illegal arrests by the officers of the law.”
Efforts to reach the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
