Douglas Luiz seemed to mock Andre Onana after scoring against Manchester United’s goalie at Villa Park on February 11.
Luiz drew the hosts equal after Rasmus Hojlund opened the score for the Red Devils in the first half.
Manchester United dominated the first half and were rewarded when a Bruno Fernandes free-kick was sent over for a corner. The resultant corner was headed down by Harry Maguire, and Hojlund slipped behind the Villa defence to poke the ball beyond Emi Martinez.
A sustained period of pressure for Unai Emery’s men paid off in the 67th minute from a set piece of their own. Onana made a brilliant save to deny Clement Lenglet from close range, but Leon Bailey sent the rebound back in. Luiz put a foot out to direct the ball past the Cameroon shot stopper.
Douglas Luiz’s celebration vs Man United
The Brazilian then rushed off to celebrate but stopped in front of Onana to do a couple of shoulder shakes and shimmies.
Luiz’s goal saw him register his best goal-scoring season. His strike was the seventh of the season, according to Squawka. He had two other decent chances to fire Villa ahead before Scott McTominay restored United’s lead on the other end.
The substitute headed in a Diogo Dalot cross to win the game for the visitors – their fourth in a row in all competitions. The result leaves United five points off Aston Villa in fifth place after 24 games. Fifth place could be enough to secure Champions League football next season.
Man United to reward Kobbie Mainoo
Manchester United’s plan to offer youngster Kobbie Mainoo a new bumper deal following his impressive performances.
Mainoo has broken through under Erik ten Hag, becoming a regular starter after recovering from a knee injury. He scored his first Premier League goal against Wolves in stoppage time to win the game for United on February 4.
