Oluchi Oparah, the National Treasurer of the Labour Party (LP), has leveled serious allegations against Barrister Julius Abure, the party’s National Chairman, accusing him of engaging in anti-party activities and covert collaboration with the Edo State government led by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The accusations surfaced during Oparah’s appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Tuesday, where she brought to light her concerns regarding the financial management of the party and Abure’s alleged obstruction of her constitutional duties.
Oparah’s grievances stem from Abure’s purported failure to provide a transparent account of the party’s finances, which she claims amounts to over N3.5 billion.
This sum was reportedly raised through the sale of forms and other sources in anticipation of the 2023 general elections. During a news conference held in Abuja on Monday, Oparah publicly demanded accountability from Abure regarding these funds.
Furthermore, Oparah refuted claims made by the Labour Party that she was being sponsored by external forces, asserting that such accusations were aimed at deflecting attention from the real issues at hand.
In a bold assertion, Oparah accused Abure of clandestinely collaborating with the PDP-led government in Edo State. She emphasized that while accusations of external sponsorship are often hurled, it is Abure who has established ties with the opposition, contrary to the party’s interests.
“I want to state it clearly here that if there’s anybody that has any alliance with the opposition, it’s the National Chairman of the Labour Party,” declared Oparah. “Let him come out and say he hasn’t been in talks with the government of Edo State.”
Oparah underscored the importance of conducting a thorough inquiry into these allegations, urging appropriate action to address the underlying issues. She emphasized her commitment to upholding the principles of transparency and accountability within the party’s leadership.
In light of these revelations, the LP treasurer’s accusations have sparked intrigue and raised questions about the integrity and loyalty of the party’s leadership.
