NBS pledges affordable, safe blood for Nigerians

The National Blood Service Commission has promised to ensure the provision of accessible, affordable and safe blood supply for all Nigerians in need of it.

The pledge was made by the newly appointed Director-General of the commission, Prof. Saleh Yuguda when he assumed office in Abuja on Friday.

He pointed out that the commission’s vital responsibility of giving residents access to safe and reasonably priced blood is consistent with President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”

He added, “In line with our commitment to serve the Nigerian populace, it is imperative that blood is accessible to every individual in need, without financial strain.”

The chairman of the NBSC reaffirmed the commission’s purpose to save life, lessen suffering, and advance wellbeing.

In order to raise the caliber of Nigeria’s healthcare system, he placed a strong focus on effective governance and an ideal blood supply chain.

On his part, Haruna Abdullahi, Head of Media and Publicity at NBSC, said that the appointment of the new director-general signifies a renewed commitment to providing accessible blood services across the country. “Prof. Yuguda’s aim is in line with the directives of Prof. Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare. “This will enhance access to safe blood and blood products nationwide, reflecting a unified effort toward achieving equitable services for all Nigerians,” Abdullahi stated.
