Lebohang Ramalepe, defender for Banyana Banyana of South Africa, has called the team’s impending 2024 Olympic Games qualifier versus Nigeria a “do or die” situation.
The two opponents are competing for one of the two slots available for Africa in the women’s football competition.
While Banyana Banyana is hoping to qualify after losing out in Tokyo four years ago, the Super Eagles are eager to return to the Olympics after a 16-year break.
Ramalepe stated that the desire of both teams to secure a place at the olympics will make both games tough.
“Remember, both of us missed the last Olympics, so this game is a do or die kind of game,” the Sowetan.
This is a new challenge for us and we are not going to dwell much on what happened in our last encounters with Nigeria because we might lose ourselves if we do that.”
