To address recent news of two players being detained on rape charges, Wolverhampton Wanderers, a Premier League team, released a statement regarding it.
Their players had nothing to do with the alleged incident, which happened last Friday night, according to a statement posted on social media.
After hearing of the arrests on Tuesday night, the Midlands team was the first to comment. They said that their worry was for the “player welfare” of the players.
The statement read, “A newspaper article published yesterday has triggered inappropriate online speculation over the identities of two individuals reportedly under investigation.
“Whilst we would not typically comment on ongoing police matters, in order to protect the welfare of our young players, we feel it is necessary to confirm that the allegations do not relate to anyone at Wolves.
“A 19-year-old man was arrested on Saturday (20 April) on suspicion of assault and aiding and abetting a rape. A second 19-year-old man was arrested on Sunday (21 April) on suspicion of rape. Both men have since been released on police bail,” the statement read as per daily mail.
