Former Rivers State Attorney General Resigns Again

Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor (SAN), who was recently deployed to the Ministry of Special Duties by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has resigned from the Rivers State Cabinet for the second time.

In a letter addressed to the Secretary of the Rivers State Government, Tammy Danagogo, Adangor cited interference in his duties by Governor Fubara as the reason for his resignation.

In the letter dated April 24, 2024, Adangor accused Governor Fubara of willfully interfering with his duties as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

He alleged that the governor directed him not to defend or oppose suits filed against the Attorney-General and the Government of Rivers State by individuals sponsored by the state government.

“I wish to state for the record that I am no longer willing to continue to serve in the administration of His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, Governor of Rivers State, in any capacity whatsoever,” Adangor said in his resignation letter.

The resignation comes amid a minor cabinet reshufflement approved by Governor Fubara, which saw Adangor being moved to the Ministry of Special Duties. Barr. Isaac Kamalu, the former Commissioner for Finance and another core loyalist of the Minister of FCT, Wike, was reposted to the Ministry of Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment.

Both Adangor and Kamalu had resigned from their positions last December but were later restored to their positions following a peace agreement reached in Abuja.

The recent reshufflement appears to be part of ongoing political tensions between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike.

The resignation of Prof. Adangor adds to the unending political crises raging in Rivers State between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Chief Nyesom Wike.

The political tensions between the two leaders have been a recurring theme in the state’s political landscape, impacting governance and administration.
