Federal High Court Sets Aside Arrest Warrant for Rivers State Governor’s Chief of Staff and Five Others

The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite, today set aside the warrant of arrest issued earlier against the Chief of Staff to Rivers State Governor, Edison Ehie, and five others.

The warrant, issued on January 31, 2024, has been nullified following the court’s agreement with the submissions made by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, and Oluwole Aladedoye, who represented the applicants.

Falana and Aladedoye argued that the court lacked jurisdiction to grant the ex-parte application brought by the Inspector General of Police (I.G.P) against Ehie and the five others.

They pointed out that there was no charge pending before the court, making the warrant of arrest improper.

Consequently, the court set aside its earlier ex-parte orders that had issued a warrant for the arrest of Ehie and the five others, as well as declaring them wanted.

The decision by the Federal High Court marks a significant development in the legal proceedings involving the Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Governor and the other accused individuals.
