UK Joins US and Canada in Imposing Sanctions on Iran’s Drone and Missile Industries
The United Kingdom has joined the United States and Canada in imposing fresh sanctions on Iran’s drone and missile industries following Iran’s recent attack on Israel.
This move comes after Tehran launched a large-scale military assault involving more than 300 drones and missiles against Israeli territory.
The attack came nearly two weeks after an airstrike on April 1 in Damascus that killed seven members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, an attack widely attributed to Israel.
In response to Iran’s actions, the UK, along with the US, announced sanctions targeting individuals and companies involved in Iran’s drone industry.
The UK’s Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office specified that the new sanctions would focus on two individuals and four companies closely tied to Iran’s drone production network.
Additionally, trade sanctions will be expanded to include bans on the export of components used in Iran’s drone and missile production.
UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron condemned Iran’s attack on Israel, stating that the Iranian regime’s actions risked thousands of civilian casualties and could lead to wider regional escalation.
He emphasized the UK’s commitment, alongside its partners, to tighten sanctions on Iran’s ability to develop and export these weapons.
The UK already has more than 400 sanctions imposed on Iran, including measures against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and individuals responsible for the attack on Israel.
