Wole Soyinka’s “The Man Died” Set for Film Adaptation Starring Wale Ojo

 

Nollywood veteran Wale Ojo is set to portray renowned Nigerian writer Wole Soyinka in the upcoming film adaptation of Soyinka’s acclaimed memoir, “The Man Died.”

The highly anticipated movie, directed by Awam Amkpa, is scheduled for release in July 2024, coinciding with Soyinka’s 90th birthday.

“The Man Died” delves into Soyinka’s reflections during his time as a political prisoner held by the government amidst the Nigerian Civil War in the late 1960s.

The memoir offers a compelling glimpse into Soyinka’s thoughts and experiences during a tumultuous period in Nigeria’s history.

Director Awam Amkpa took to Instagram to announce the film’s release date, generating excitement among fans eager to see Soyinka’s story brought to life on the big screen.

The adaptation aims to capture the essence of Soyinka’s narrative while offering a cinematic portrayal of his journey.

Originally published by Soyinka in 1972, “The Man Died” holds significant historical and literary importance, shedding light on the author’s resilience and intellect in the face of adversity.

Soyinka’s contributions to literature were further recognized when he became the first Sub-Saharan African to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1986.

Joining Wale Ojo in the cast are esteemed Nollywood actors including Chidi Mokeme, Sam Dede, Norbert Young, Francis Onwochei, Edmond Enabe, Segilola Ogidan, Simileoluwa Hassan, Christiana Oshunniyi, and newcomer Abraham Amkpa.

Their collective talent promises to bring depth and authenticity to the characters and storyline of “The Man Died.”
