Greek Super League champion PAOK FC, led by Nigerian international William Troost-Ekong, won the 2023–2024 season.
After a fierce 2-1 away win over Aris on Sunday night, PAOK emerged victorious in the league for the fourth time, finishing two points ahead of AEK Athens with 80 points from 36 games.
Just two minutes into the second half of the game, Loren Moron of Aris tied the score after Brandon Thomas of PAOK opened the scoring on the hour mark.
However, Taison’s strike in the 62nd minute proved to be the winner, sparking wild celebrations among the PAOK faithful.
Although Troost-Ekong was not included in the matchday squad by manager Razvan Lucescu, the 30-year-old centre-back played a pivotal role throughout the campaign, making 10 league appearances for the White and Blacks before undergoing surgery following the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in February.
Troost-Ekong, who recently returned to full training, took to X to express his joy, writing, “CHAMPIONS OF GREECE.”
Having joined the club in 2023, Troost-Ekong has established himself as a reliable centre-back for PAOK and the Super Eagles.
