Rangers Boss Dismisses Claims of Financially Motivating Kwara Players

Amobi Ezeaku, the general manager of Enugu Rangers, has dismissed a statement made by Moses Etu, the former chairman of Warri Wolves, claiming that he orchestrated their elimination from the President Federation Cup by providing financial incentives to Kwara United prior to their round-of-32 match on Wednesday at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Akwa.

In response to rumours and a Facebook post by Etu, who is currently the Delta State Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Sports, Ezeaku expressed his anger with our journalist. On Wednesday, Kwara defeated NNL team Wolves 1-0 in Enugu to go to the competition’s round of 16.

“I blamed him (Ezeaku) for working against Warri Wolves behind the scenes and openly came out to tell Kwara players to beat Wolves. He gave them a substantial amount. Those who were present at the match saw what happened. There is always tomorrow,” Etu wrote on Facebook.

Reacting to the post in a telephone conversation with our correspondent, Ezeaku termed it a ridiculous insinuation.

He said, “Why are Warri Wolves crying? Did I play against them? They have lost and should take it in good faith. Let them prepare for next year, maybe they can do better.

“The GM of Kwara United, Bashir Badawiy, is my friend. He called me when he arrived in Enugu, came to my office, and presented the club’s jersey to me. The following day, I went to their training session to motivate the players with the sum of N100,000. Is it not my money?

“If Moses Etu came to my office or even called me when Warri Wolves arrived in Enugu, I would have done the same thing for them.”
