Timi Dakolo’s “Great Nation” A Better Anthem? – Adekunle Gold
Nigerian artist Adekunle Gold believes that his colleague Timi Dakolo’s song ‘Great Nation’ would have been a better national anthem than the previous one that the country returned to.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday signed the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law to reinstate the old anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.”
In response, Adekunle Gold wondered why those in authority did not consider Timi Dakolo’s ‘Great Nation’ as the country’s new anthem.
In his words;
“No one thought Timi Dakolo’s Great Nation makes a better anthem?”
The Hit maker’s post sparked reactions.
Below are some of the reactions:
@CarmillaXander said, “Absolutely yes, that song could make the least patriotic Nigerian stand up and go ‘sasageyo’.”
@BFMPLUS said, “Yes but it still carries the disputable and derogatory word: Tribe!!
We should stop describing ourselves as tribal people.
“No whiteman ever allows himself to be called tribe.”
@jachukwu wrote, “If they were truly looking for an anthem that will steer up patriotism and love for the country it would have been that song.”
