The National Bureau of Statistics has said that the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, known as cooking gas, increased by 13.75 percent to N7,418.45 for 5 kilograms in May 2024 from N6,521.58 in April.
This was revealed by NBS in their May LPG Price Watch report, which was released on Wednesday.
Similarly, from N4,360.69 in May 2023 to N7,12 percent in May 2023, the price of LPG rose annually.
According to the report, on state profile analysis, Benue recorded the highest price for refilling a 5kg cylinder of cooking gas with N8,012.03, followed by Enugu with N7,926.21, and Ondo with N7,857.53.
In contrast, Yobe had the lowest price, N5,842.31, which was followed by N6,521.81 in Jigawa and N6,567.95 in Katsina.
Furthermore, zone-by-zone study revealed that the South-East was the region with the highest average retail price at N7,680.87 for refilling a 5-kg liquefied petroleum gas (also known as cooking gas), followed by the South-West (N6,593.93) and the North-East (N7,071.84) at the lowest.
Meanwhile, the average retail price for refilling a 12.5kg Cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) dropped by 0.07 percent on a month-on-month basis from N15,637.74 in April 2024 to N15,627.40 in May 2024. However, this increased by 63.85 percent year over year from N9,537.89 in May 2023.
