The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) says the country will soon join the big league in December when it becomes a net exporter of refined petroleum products.
NNPCL’s Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Mele Kyari, stated this on Monday, adding that the Port Harcourt Refinery will go into full operation and petrol supply from next month. Briefing the National Assembly Joint Committee on Finance, Kyari noted that Warri and Kaduna refineries will follow suit by December.
The company disclosed Kyari’s interaction with the lawmakers in Abuja via its X handle on Tuesday. According to the post, the NNPCL boss joined other critical stakeholders of the nation’s economy at an Emergency Interactive Session organised by the Senate Committee on Finance, led by Senator Muhammed Sani Musa, to discuss economic issues.
“During the session, Kyari explained that based on emerging indicators and developments in the energy sector, Nigeria will be a net exporter of petroleum products by the end of the year,” the post read.
“The GCEO also noted that the recent growth in the nation’s crude oil production was as a result of Mr. President’s Executive Orders and the ongoing war on low crude oil production embarked on by the NNPC Limited and other industry stakeholders.
“The NNPC Limited, Kyari added, will continue to live up to its mandate of guaranteeing national energy security, as stipulated by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021.”
