Malang Sarr Joins Lens from Chelsea on Free Transfer

Malang Sarr has signed for French Ligue 1 club RC Lens on a free transfer after his contract with Chelsea expired.

Sarr has signed a new contract with Lens, keeping him in France for the next two years.

Sarr’s time in England was clearly over, as Chelsea deemed the centre-back surplus to requirements.

The 25-year-old Sarr was close to joining Le Havre AC during the winter transfer window, but Chelsea never provided the necessary documentation to complete the transfer.

This left Sarr stuck at a club that was unwilling to play him. Le Havre’s sporting director, Matthieu Bodmer, called Chelsea’s actions at the time “shameful.”

However, this summer with his contract finally expired, Sarr was allowed to return to France where he will expect far more playing time.

He becomes one of the first signings of the new era at Lens under Will Still, with the club revealing in their press release that they are appreciative of his talents as a versatile figure who can provide the club with a bit more experience.
