The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has delivered a substantial consignment of 1,528.2 metric tonnes of assorted grains to Jigawa State as part of efforts to support vulnerable communities. This distribution, which includes maize, sorghum, and millet, is part of a larger initiative approved by President Bola Tinubu and managed by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
In a statement released on Monday via X.com, NEMA detailed that the allocation to Jigawa State is drawn from the 42,000 metric tonnes of assorted food commodities stored in the National Strategic Reserve. This initiative aims to provide relief to vulnerable Nigerians across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory amid the ongoing food crisis in the country.
The breakdown of the distribution for Jigawa State includes:
– **594 metric tonnes (11,880 bags) of maize**
– **691.2 metric tonnes (13,824 bags) of sorghum**
– **243 metric tonnes (4,860 bags) of millet**
These grains will be distributed equitably across all local government areas in Jigawa State, ensuring that the food aid reaches those most in need.
