Otti to reconstitute Abia Pilgrims Welfare Board

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has pledged to reconstitute the Abia Pilgrims Welfare Board in preparation for this year’s pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Otti made this commitment during a meeting on Tuesday with a delegation from the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission, led by its Executive Secretary, Stephen Adegbite. The meeting took place at Otti’s residence in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area.

During the visit, Governor Otti expressed gratitude for the church’s role in supporting his election and acknowledged Bishop Adegbite’s recognition of his administration’s accomplishments. Otti reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to positive governance, stating, “I want to assure you that this government will continue to do the right thing. Leadership is about service; if you are not interested in the welfare of the people, you have already failed.

The governor highlighted his methodical approach to managing state funds and noted that his administration has avoided borrowing. When borrowing is necessary, Otti emphasized that it would be directed toward investments. He also assured that his election manifesto’s programs are being implemented systematically.

Adegbite had earlier urged the governor to reconstitute the state pilgrims’ welfare board, which has been a vital partner in the Christian Pilgrims project. The cleric noted that arrangements for the 2024 Christian Pilgrimage to the Holy Land are still underway. He revealed that the cost of the pilgrimage to Jerusalem is currently ₦5 million, and the commission will announce the specific cost for Abia pilgrims once state support is confirmed.

Adegbite commended Governor Otti for his achievements since taking office about 16 months ago, highlighting the positive impact of his leadership on the state.
