
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) recently responded to a distress call regarding a road traffic accident on Third Mainland Bridge, inward Iyana Oworoshoki in Lagos state, southwest of Nigeria.
The vehicles involved are two Toyota Hi Ace buses with registration numbers EKY 804 YH and LND 624 YE respectively. As the LASEMA official arrived at the scene, it was determined that the accident was caused by a mechanical brake failure due to overspeeding, which led to the accident.
Unfortunately, one of the drivers of the bus lost his life in the incident, while seven other victims sustained serious injuries. The injured individuals were promptly administered first aid treatment by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) officials and transferred to the Trauma Centre in Gbagada, Lagos for further medical care.
In response to the situation, LASEMA coordinated a recovery operation and controlled traffic alongside the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) during this process. Safety measures were taken to protect responders and other road users during operations. The accident vehicles were successfully taken off the road and moved to the LASTMA office in Oshodi, Lagos.
After these efforts, the Third Mainland Bridge was re-opened after the recovery operations. The operatives who took part in the rescue and recovery mission were officers of LASEMA’s Command and Centre in Alausa, LRU-Hospital Care Unit, LASAMBUS, LASTMA, Nigerian Police Force, Lagos State Fire & Rescue Service.
