NAFDAC Shuts Down Illegal Cosmetic Factory in Lagos

The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down an illegal factory involved in the production of counterfeit cosmetic products at Benue Plaza, Trade Fair Complex, Lagos State.

The agency made this announcement on Tuesday via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, revealing that its operatives raided the factory and uncovered a wide array of unregistered chemicals, packaging materials, and expired products that were being revalidated for sale.

During the operation, NAFDAC seized over 1,200 cartons of counterfeit cosmetic products. Among the confiscated items were mini-mixing containers, unlabelled chemicals, batch coding materials, and thinners. All the materials were moved to the NAFDAC office for further investigation.

“The Agency estimates the street value of the confiscated items to be around ₦50 million,” the post stated.

NAFDAC has urged the public to remain vigilant when purchasing cosmetic products and to report any suspicious activities or products to the nearest NAFDAC office to ensure consumer safety.
