Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged Edo citizens to avoid voting for the All-Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the upcoming Edo State governorship election. In a statement on his X account titled “The Clear Choice for a Prosperous Edo State,” Atiku called on voters to embrace change, claiming that the APC has abandoned the principles of governance while neglecting the needs of the common people.
“At this pivotal moment as you prepare to vote on September 21, 2024, remember the immense power you hold,” he said. “You have the power to break free from the chains of poor governance and to chart a new course for our beloved state. Your vote is a precious tool for change.”
He criticized the APC for masquerading as a friend to the masses, asserting that behind their facade lies a harsh reality. “They have deceived gullible voters with empty promises, revealing their true nature—a party focused on power rather than the welfare of the people,” he stated. “They have forsaken governance ideals, ignoring the cries of the common man while pursuing selfish ambitions. Under their leadership, Nigeria has descended into an abyss of suffering.”
Atiku highlighted the consequences of the APC’s rule, citing widespread poverty, despair, and insecurity. “The vibrant spirit of our nation has dimmed as survival becomes a relentless struggle, making even basic necessities like food unattainable for millions. Our people are not merely dying from disease but from hunger. We have reached a low point in governance, with the APC serving only its own interests.”
He also addressed the government’s response to dissent, stating, “When citizens have rightfully protested their grievances, they have been silenced and faced charges of treason, while APC leaders live in luxury, oblivious to the hardships endured by the nation.”
However, Atiku expressed hope for the future, pointing to Dr. Asue Ighodalo as a candidate who embodies integrity and vision. “Ighodalo’s candidacy represents a path to redemption for Edo State. Where the APC has failed, he stands ready to serve with competence and a genuine commitment to the people’s welfare.”
“At this election, ask yourself: Has the APC improved your life, or have they deepened your struggles? The answer is clear,” he urged. “Your vote for Ighodalo will not only bring change to Edo State but will also send a powerful message across Nigeria that we reject the deceit and self-serving ways of the APC.”
