Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has extended condolences to the government and people of Borno State following the devastating flooding in Maiduguri.
Represented by a delegation led by the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government Abubakar Nakwada, the visit aimed to express solidarity and support for the affected communities.
In a statement from Zamfara’s Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, Nakwada conveyed the heartfelt sympathy of the Zamfara State government and announced a donation of ₦100 million to aid relief efforts. He remarked, “On behalf of the people and Government of Zamfara State, we are profoundly saddened by the reports that over one million people have been displaced due to this catastrophic event caused by the overflow from the Alu Dam.”
He emphasized the emotional impact of the disaster, noting the shared experiences of the Zamfara people, who have faced similar challenges, albeit on a smaller scale. “The magnitude of this disaster is truly heart-wrenching. Our thoughts and prayers are with the affected families as they navigate these challenging times,” Nakwada added.
The statement included prayers for the deceased and hopes for the recovery of those who lost their properties and means of livelihood. “As a gesture of solidarity, the Government of Zamfara State is donating ₦100 million to support relief efforts in Maiduguri. May Allah grant strength and resilience to the victims as they work to rebuild their lives,” he concluded.
