Increased Security Presence and Roadblocks Ahead of Edo Governorship Election

As the Edo governorship election approaches, security personnel have established roadblocks across Benin City, beginning as early as 6:00 a.m. today. The election is set to commence at 8:00 a.m., and security forces are actively stopping and searching vehicles, questioning occupants to maintain security and order throughout the voting process.

Despite the heightened security, some commercial bus drivers attempted to bypass the roadblocks to evade questioning by officials. Key locations, including the popular Ring Road, saw a significant military presence, especially at critical junctions such as Sapele Road, Forestry Junction, and the city center, where an armored tank was stationed.

Additionally, heavy security was noted at Okida Road, Ekewaun Road, and the INEC office on Ikpoba Hill. Roadblocks were also set up near Agbado Market and the Akpakpava and Sapele Roads intersection.

Overall, vehicular movement has been limited, with only a few people presumably voters walking along the roads as the election day unfolds.
