Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced a reduction in workdays for civil servants as part of efforts to alleviate transportation costs amid the country’s economic challenges.
This decision was communicated in a statement on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
In a move to support public servants, Adeleke also extended the payment of financial palliatives for an additional two months. “This initiative reflects the governor’s commitment to the well-being of Osun workers during these tough economic times,” Rasheed stated.
Under the new directive, public servants on Salary Grade Level (GL) 01 to GL 10 will now work three days a week, while those on GL 12 to GL 17 will work four days a week. However, essential personnel including medical staff, security officers, political office holders, and accounting officers will not be affected by this arrangement.
“The specific days for each public servant’s attendance will be coordinated by the Accounting Officers in their respective ministries, departments, and agencies,” the statement added.
Additionally, the governor confirmed the continuation of agreed palliative payments for public servants until the new minimum wage takes effect.
This decision comes as Nigerians grapple with rising living costs and the effects of recent federal policies, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the naira.
