Tinubu approves ₦10b take off grant for Federal University of Education Pankshin

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a ₦10 billion take-off grant for the newly upgraded Federal University of Education Pankshin (FUEP) in Plateau State.

This announcement was made by Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, the representative for Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency, during the official unveiling of the university by the National Universities Commission (NUC) following an on-site assessment.

Gagdi, who sponsored the bill to upgrade the Federal College of Education Pankshin to university status, expressed his fulfillment with the bill’s approval by former President Muhammadu Buhari, despite it being delayed by the Ministry of Education. He noted, “Buhari approved the bill, overriding the Ministry of Education for immediate implementation, but it faced challenges that led some to accuse me of lying. Today, I am vindicated.”

He further revealed that he appealed to President Tinubu regarding the common difficulties new universities face in securing releases from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (Tetfund). In response, the President approved the ₦10 billion grant to facilitate effective operations at FUEP.

Additionally, Gagdi announced that the Federal Government has authorized the recruitment of over 161 staff to fill essential positions at the university, and he has provided this approval to the Chairman of the Governing Board.
