PDP Suspends Campaigns in Akwa Ibom Following Death of First Lady Patience Eno

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has temporarily halted its political campaign for the upcoming local elections in response to the passing of First Lady Patience Eno. The elections are scheduled for October 26, and political parties had been actively campaigning for votes.

Eno passed away on Thursday in a hospital due to an undisclosed illness, as confirmed by a statement from the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Ini Ememobong.

The statement noted, “She passed away peacefully at the hospital on September 26, 2024, in the presence of her family.” The family has requested privacy during this time of mourning and is grateful for the prayers and support from the public.

In a statement announcing the suspension of campaign activities, PDP Publicity Secretary Edwin Ebiese expressed the party’s sorrow: “This devastating news has left our party, and indeed the entire state, in a state of mourning. As we struggle to come to terms with this immense loss, we are compelled to pause our campaign activities as a mark of respect for the departed First Lady.”

Ebiese extended condolences to Governor Umo Eno, his family, and the people of Akwa Ibom State, stating, “We regret any inconvenience this suspension may cause and appreciate the understanding of our supporters and the general public during this difficult time.

May God grant the family of the deceased and our state the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”
