NLC Urges Hope and Resilience on Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has extended heartfelt congratulations to Nigerians as the country celebrates its 64th independence anniversary.
In a message delivered on Monday, NLC President Joe Ajaero commended the resilience and sacrifices of workers, acknowledging the numerous challenges posed by broken promises, exploitation, and government corruption.

Ajaero’s statement emphasized the need for hope among the downtrodden, urging them not to lose faith in their country despite the hardships they endure. “On this occasion, we celebrate all Nigerians, especially workers, for their robust spirit in the face of monumental betrayals by political leadership,” he said.

He encouraged citizens to voice their grievances lawfully, advocating for their rights against injustices and the subversion of democratic norms by the political elite. “It should be apparent to the citizenry that the leading political elite are not ready to do the right thing unless compelled to do so,” Ajaero noted.

Furthermore, he cautioned the political elite against undermining the principles of democracy, emphasizing that such actions cannot continue unchecked. He stated, “The consequences of their acts of commission or omission brought us this far. It is time to turn a new leaf.”

Ajaero concluded his message by calling for a collective effort to usher in a new era of accountability and integrity in governance, urging all Nigerians to remain vigilant and proactive in defending their rights and democratic values.
