Anambra State is set to protect over 1.1 million children through its 2024 integrated measles vaccination campaign, aimed at reducing the impact of the disease.
The State Health Educator at the Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency Uju Onwuegbuzina, announced the initiative during a zonal meeting organized by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the National Orientation Agency in Enugu on Tuesday.
A total of 1,227,113 doses of the measles vaccine have been secured for distribution across the state’s 330 wards in 21 local government areas.
The campaign is scheduled to run from October 12 to 18, 2024, and will take place at designated health facilities as well as mobile posts in communities, schools, churches, and markets essentially anywhere children can be found.
Hillary Ozoh, a social behavioral change specialist at UNICEF’s Enugu Field Office, stressed the importance of media engagement in achieving the national goal of 95 percent vaccination coverage. He urged journalists to contribute by reporting on the campaign from an informative perspective, using data-driven stories to educate the public about the significance of measles vaccination.
With this initiative, Anambra State aims to enhance child health and safety, underscoring its commitment to combating preventable diseases through effective vaccination programs.
