The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed counterfeit and expired products valued at over N10 billion in a public exercise held in Gombe State on Wednesday.
Represented by North-East Zonal Director Kenneth Azikwe, NAFDAC’s Director-General, Mojisola Adeyeye, emphasized the agency’s commitment to safeguarding Nigerian markets from substandard, falsified, and harmful products. “NAFDAC remains at the forefront of protecting and promoting public health through rigorous standards, innovative practices, and international collaboration,” she stated.
The destroyed items included a range of food, drugs, cosmetics, and other regulated products seized by NAFDAC’s regulatory and enforcement officers. Adeyeye highlighted that these products could have posed serious health risks to many individuals if allowed into circulation.
She urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report any suspicious products, stressing that collective efforts are essential in building a safer and healthier nation.
Gombe State NAFDAC Coordinator James Agada reaffirmed the agency’s determination to combat those who prioritize profit over public safety.
He described the destruction exercise as a crucial component of NAFDAC’s market control strategy, ensuring that only safe and quality products reach consumers. “We will enhance surveillance and bring violators to justice,” Agada assured, while reiterating NAFDAC’s commitment to strengthening regulatory frameworks and upholding product quality standards.
