Lagos State Government Urges Youths to Join the Military for National Security

The Lagos State Government has called on the youth to consider enrolling in the military, emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility for national security.

The Secretary to the State Government Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, made the appeal during a quarterly meeting with the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Ikeja on Wednesday.

Salu-Hundeyin expressed concern over the low participation of indigenous youths in military recruitment, noting that the Nigerian Government allocates 150 slots for each state in the military. She pointed out that Lagos State has been significantly underrepresented in the armed forces, which could jeopardize the state’s interests.

“It is disheartening that our children do not see the military as a viable career option,” she stated. “Security is everyone’s business, and participation should not be limited to a specific group. The government encourages those interested to apply.”

She underscored that joining the military is a service to both the state and the nation, highlighting that a lack of participation could disadvantage Lagos in national security matters. “If your state does not participate, you are short-changing your state,” Salu-Hundeyin concluded, urging the youth to take advantage of the opportunity to serve their country.
