Ogun Governor Dapo Abiodun Approves N77,000 Minimum Wage for Workers

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has announced the approval of a new minimum wage of N77,000 for workers in the state, effective immediately.

This decision was revealed by the secretary to the Ogun State government Tokunbo Talabi, following a meeting with leaders of organized labor, including representatives from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC).

Talabi stated that the meeting was called at the governor’s directive, emphasizing that no worker in Ogun State should earn less than N77,000 starting in October. He also urged the private sector to engage in discussions with relevant stakeholders to determine a suitable minimum wage for their employees.

To ensure compliance, the government plans to establish a monitoring team tasked with overseeing the implementation of the new minimum wage across the private sector.

Chairman of the Ogun State NLC Hameed Benco, expressed the union’s satisfaction with the governor’s decision, calling it “the highest minimum wage in the country.” Benco also noted that the governor has agreed to the labor unions’ request that the new basic salary be exempt from taxation.
