President Tinubu Sends Delegation to Jigawa Following Tragic Fire Incident

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, to lead a Nigerian Government delegation to Jigawa State in response to the devastating inferno in Majia town on Tuesday night, which claimed over 100 lives.

The delegation will include key officials such as the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar; the Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali; Corps Marshal of the Federal Roads Safety Commission (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed; and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North West), Abdullahi Tanko Yakasai.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, it was announced that the delegation will assess the situation on the ground and visit those injured in local hospitals.

President Tinubu has also ordered the provision of emergency aid, including medical supplies, food, and shelter for the 50 victims currently receiving treatment, as well as for others affected by the fire.

“The President, with a heavy heart, joins the Vice President in extending his deepest condolences to the families of the victims of this devastating incident,” the statement read. Tinubu expressed his heartfelt prayers for the bereaved and reaffirmed support for the government and people of Jigawa during this tragic time.

The President has committed to a swift review of fuel transportation safety protocols nationwide in collaboration with state authorities. He has instructed the FRSC to enhance night travel safety measures through increased patrols and stricter enforcement of regulations, emphasizing accountability for any breaches of safety standards.
