Kaduna PDP Dismisses Boycott Rumors Ahead of Local Council Elections

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State has emphatically denied rumors urging party members to boycott today’s council elections across the 23 local government areas.

In a statement to newsmen in Kafanchan, the headquarters of Jema’a Local Government Area, state chairman Edward Masha clarified that no such call for a boycott has been made or endorsed by his office.

Masha addressed concerns that arose during an inspection of sensitive electoral materials at the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIECOM) office in Kaduna, where it was discovered that essential materials, specifically the result sheets, were missing. He termed this oversight an anomaly and raised alarms about potential manipulations by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Two weeks ago, I alerted the public about plans by the APC to manipulate the elections by sneaking a clause into the SIECOM election guidelines that could undermine the announcement of results,” Masha stated.

The PDP chairman reaffirmed the party’s commitment to ensuring all sensitive materials are present to guarantee a fair electoral process. He warned that the ruling party’s actions signal an alarming threat to democracy in the state.

Masha called on all PDP members to turn out in large numbers to cast their votes and urged them to maintain peace throughout the elections. “We must exercise our franchise and avoid any actions that could disrupt the electoral process in our local government areas,” he urged.
