Nigerian Army Dismisses Claims of Leadership Vacuum During COAS’s Leave

The Nigerian Army has dismissed recent media reports suggesting a leadership vacuum due to the absence of Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, who is currently on official leave.

Army spokesman Major General Onyema Nwachukwu clarified that Major General Abdulsalami Ibrahim has been appointed to act on Lagbaja’s behalf during this period, ensuring that all operations remain uninterrupted.

Nwachukwu emphasized that claims of confusion among officers are unfounded. “The Nigerian Army is a highly structured establishment with well-laid-out procedures for various circumstances,” he stated. He highlighted that protocols were established before Lagbaja’s leave to maintain continuity in leadership.

“This situation is not unique to the Nigerian Army; there have been instances where service chiefs were absent for extended periods, and their Chiefs of Policy and Plans effectively managed operations,” he explained.

The spokesman reassured the public that all routine activities are proceeding as scheduled and urged them to disregard rumors about any potential disruption in service.

The Nigerian Army remains committed to its mission and responsibilities during Lagbaja’s absence.
