Controversial heavyweight boxer Jarrell Miller says Daniel Dubois will defeat Anthony Joshua again if the British-Nigerian boxer goes ahead with a rematch in 2025.
Miller, speaking with Boxing Scene, gave a harsh appraisal of Joshua’s chances in a prospective rematch following his catastrophic fifth-round knockout loss to Dubois at Wembley Stadium last month.
“Same outcome,” Miller declared.
“AJ’s still getting knocked out. I think it definitely does (end his career), but he’s big money—they’re going they’re gonna keep milking the cow until there’s no more milk left.”
The outspoken American, who was previously scheduled to fight Joshua in 2019 before failing a pre-fight drugs test, believes the former two-time heavyweight champion should face him before considering retirement or a rematch with Dubois, saying, “I need that fight first. One more loss, and he calls it quits. One more bad loss—he’s made enough money already. I give everybody the recipe to beating AJ already—he ain’t got no chin; he ain’t got no heart.”
The brutal defeat to Dubois, which saw Joshua drop multiple times before a powerful right hand ended the contest in the fifth round, marked his fourth professional loss and has led to calls for his retirement from notable figures in boxing.
Former champion Prince Naseem Hamed is among the most vocal advocates for Joshua’s retirement, telling iFL TV, “Whether he can or he can’t, I’d prefer him not to. He’s had his day in the sun like we all have. He’s done great; he won amazing world titles; he’s defended them; he’s earned his dough. Listen, he should bow out gracefully, and that’s it, done.”
However, the 34-year-old Joshua remains defiant about his future in the sport.
“I want to continue fighting. We took a shot, and we came up short. What are we going to do—walk away? We’re going to live another day,” he stated after the fight.
His promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that while a rematch with Dubois was initially seen as the primary option, they might instead target a British showdown with Tyson Fury.
“It would be frustrating if we made the Dubois rematch and Fury won (vs. Oleksandr Usyk),” Hearn said.
“Then we’re sitting there going, ‘Hang on a minute, we’re fighting Dubois, but we could have fought Fury in May for the biggest fight in boxing.’ Win or lose, we can fight Fury next summer.”
Miller and Joshua have maintained a hostile relationship since their cancelled 2019 bout, with the pair exchanging heated insults during an encounter in Saudi Arabia last December.
Meanwhile, Dubois, 25, has seen his stock rise dramatically following his career-defining victory at Wembley, positioning himself among the division’s elite and potentially setting up even bigger fights in the future.
