The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the successful restoration of bulk power supply through its 330kV Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line 1 as of 4:56 PM on Wednesday.
This follows the completion of repairs on a section of the line that had been vandalized.
In a statement released by TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah, it was confirmed that with this restoration, the Apir-Lafia 330kV transmission line 2 is now back in operation. This development means that power supply has been restored to Lafia, Makurdi, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi, and Gombe States.
As efforts continue, the TCN engineering team is set to begin work on the second 330kV transmission line. All necessary materials for these repairs are on site, and work will commence as soon as the area is secured to ensure the safety of personnel working on the affected sections.
The statement highlighted that teams of linesmen will re-patrol the 330kV line 2 to monitor for any additional issues as repair work progresses. TCN expressed gratitude for the public’s patience and understanding during this challenging period, acknowledging the vital role electricity plays in daily life. The company is committed to swiftly repairing the second transmission line to increase bulk power supply to the affected areas.
The northern region had experienced power outages for over a week, a situation triggered by the tripping of the 330kV circuit transmission line between Benue and Enugu.
Additional impacts were felt along the transmission line connecting Shiroro and Kaduna, affecting states including Kano, Gombe, Kebbi, Jos, Kaduna, Benue, Bauchi, Adamawa, Taraba, Borno, Kwara, Nasarawa, and Yobe.
